Client — The Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (CO BHA)
Project — We were called in to quickly design and standup a directory site for the BHA in the span of 2 months. This included 2 rounds of usability testing once the soft launch went live. I facilitated over a dozen 1:1 live interviews with volunteers to dive into the site to see what was and wasn’t working. I also lead visual and UX design of the site, made recommendations from testing on which data to collect and surface on the site, lead the design and implementation of features, and made recommendations based on analytics.
Role — UX Researcher, UX and Visual Design Lead, Transitional Project Manager
Why it’s important — Mental health and substance use access in particular is fraught with issues: availability, cost, quality of care, stigma, and the narrow “open window” of individuals being open to finding care. The BHA was created to make strides in these areas by providing safe access to screened and approved providers throughout Colorado.
The Research
This site initially came together within a very quick window — under 2 months. We were supplied with wireframes and a load of great discovery artifacts. We quickly developed a clickable prototype in Figma, along with a very basic site for people to explore. I conducted 2 rounds of usability testing with providers, caregivers, and people seeking help to see if what we were planning would work for them. We also asked about what they’d like to see on the site and how they’d use it, which informed some of our future decisions.
